EDIT 6190

Desk Crits I Received

Your site and flash swf is great! I loved the interactivity it provided. Your pages are well designed and the color scheme is great and all your fonts are easy to read. I just have a few suggestions:
- The navigation through your webpage is a little confusing because it’s not very clear what to click to get where. I got lost in your site just trying to find my way back to your swf prototype.
-Also, your graphic of you with the racecar looks like you are flicking me off
-It would be nice to add a button to mute the music, and also when the track ends the button goes away and I had to reload the page to see the begin button again.
Other than that it looks great! You did a great job and I can tell you like the Bills!

Once again, your use of Flash for your personal web site is awesome. You’ve inspired me to learn how to use Flash when I redo my own home page. Here are some suggestions:

1) Is there a way to jumpstart the animation every time the viewer clicks on the car?
2) One thing you may want to consider is having the links change color or underline on the rollover.
3) You have a lot of links in you navigation bar at the top if the page. Is there a way to combine some of your links into general categories to reduce the number of links?
4) When the car drives to a city, make sure the photos you include with the description are optimized for clarity and color.
5) Remember to include alternative text to meet disability standards.

As I mentioned to you when we met, the picture of you at Uncle Joe’s wedding is great—the blur effect is something I plan to use in the future somehow!

Keep up the good work!

Collin

What an interesting idea for your 6190 project. I look forward to reading about the rest of your travels.
I hope you were a good tourist while in Florida, my home state. :-)

For the geographically challenged, it would be great to have a rollover with the city named when you
mouse over the thumbtacks. This could fulfill one of your accessibility requirements too!

I really liked what happened when I clicked on Buffalo. The action was fun and the information
is a fun visual presentation.

I am a little worried that it looks like you are giving us the finger in your photo. Might want to
photoshop that just a bit!

Good luck in getting the rest of your cities linked and your project completed.

Sincerely,

Mary
What I liked:

I liked the over all idea and the execution plan. The use of
Map and mini car is really cool! Great job Jeremiah! I really
look forward to seeing the whole project enfold.

Some suggestions to improve:

Here are some of my suggestions:

1. I think the text color is interfering with the
background graphic. There are two suggestions:
1) either you
divide the screen so that the map remains at one side with
the text on the other
2) You can change the color of the
background map to very pale gray. You can also look at
sharpening the color where you are emphasizing the places and
dulling under the text. Changing the color of the font can
also be an alternative.

2. I think it would be good if you can do a mouse over
or plain text on the thumbnails. This will give the user the
idea of which place he is going to?

3. I sense that you may want the user to follow a
certain chronological order while they are viewing various
places (since you have mentioned the graduation in a specific
year). For this you may want to set a trail in the map
guiding the user to go from one place to another.

4. A little smaller size of thumbnail will look nice.

A Quilt Review

I really liked the navigation, flow, and color schemes. I think the flow of the site is very easy to follow. The main menu is very helpful because it starts off with the "how to", then the samples, and then the game. The only navigation item I would change would be to move the main menu button down to the bottom of the page, next to the other navigation buttons. I really liked the game, and this maybe too difficult to do, but is it possible to make the pieces "snap" once you are close enough to the sides. It was a little difficult to get it to be exactly where I wanted it. Great job!

Child Care Matters

I couldn't find much about your project I would change, I think it's very well put together. Good navigation, use of colors, and overall design. I think you didn't go overboard with the technology (PHP, and Flash), you only used it when necessary. I really like all the rollovers, at first I thought it was flash, but then I looked again and it's php. I wish I knew how to do that. The test questions are well thought out and appropriate for the material.

Sport Instruction Research Lab

Great looking site, I know it's a UGA site so it was a good use of the UGA colors (red, black, and grey). I thought you did a good job keeping the "look and feel" of a professional university web site. The pictures you used looked very professional, I especially liked the main page picture, I'm guessing you used fireworks to create it. The only part of the site I had a little trouble navigating was the research section. For when I clicked on the drop down, and went to "presentations" it worked fine, but there was a lot of space at the bottom, so I thought I had to scroll down for something more. It could just be me, I don't know if you can get rid of that space at the bottom? Other then that minor detail, I really liked the site.

Evolution Tutorial

I like the project, there are only a few suggestions I have.
-I am guessing this would be part of a science lesson plan, so the children would have some background information. But I think it might be helpful to have a paragraph or two about the evolution of organisms on the main menu. This way the children can have a "refresher" before they use the program.
- I like the timeline at the bottom, but it kept on thinking I could click on the various time periods and get some more information about them. I didn't know if this was something you are going to add in the future.
- Lastly, when you move an object into the box, it would be good to have an explanation about why it's correct or not. I think this would give a little bit more feedback to the children. Again, I don't know if this was something you are working on.
Good job!
